Álvaro Arias González

Born in Madrid in 1989, Álvaro Arias began his musical education at the Amaniel Conservatory (Madrid) with Ángel Luis de la Rosa, where he finished his studies obtaining the Certificate of Musical Studies (Grado Profesional de Música) with High Honors, and obtaining distinctions in all his subjects.

Between 2012 and 2015 he studied his Bachelor in classical saxophone at the Conservatori Superior de les Illes Balears (Palma de Mallorca) with Rodrigo Vila and David Brutti, graduating with distinction in saxophone and chamber music. In 2016, he started his Master of Music with Prof. Daniel Gauthier at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln, finishing it in 2018 with high distinction.


Always interested in other styles, in 2018 he was accepted in the class of Roger Hanschel at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln to study Bachelor in Jazz Saxophone, where he is currently in his third year of studies. He has received masterclasses from a large number of international musicians such as Jean-Marie Londeix, Marie-Bernardette Charrier, Arno Bornkamp, François Rossé, Cristian Lauba, Richard Ducros, Marcus Weiss, Lars Mlekusch, Mario Caroli, Etienne Rolain, Carl-Emmanuel Fisbach, Henrique Portovedo, Alberto Posadas, Jesús Torres, Fukio Quartet and Jeff Vickers.

Álvaro has participated in numerous international competitions, obtaining the second prize in the VIII International “Higini Àngles” Chamber Music Competition (Tarragona), first prize in the XVII International Chamber Music Competition “Ciutat de Vinàros" (Valencia), first prize in the V International Chamber Music Competition  “Ciutat de Burriana" (Castellón), second prize in the XVI International Chamber Music Competition “Ciutat de Burriana" (Castellón), the second prize in the XVI International Chamber Music Competition “Ciutat de Vinaròs (Castellón) and Honourable Mention in the III. International Chamber Music Competition "Antón García Abril” (Granada). He was finalist at the XIII National Muisic Competition “Intercentros Melómano” in 2014 in Madrid, and
he was awarded with the 1 st Prize in the Fourth Edition of the International Saxophone Competition “Ramon Guzmán” in Santiago de Compostela.


He has played in several music festivals in Spain with Thesis Saxophone Quartett. such as the ME_MMIX New Music Festival (Palma de Mallorca), the 36th International Deià Music Festival (Mallorca), or the 7th Mallorca Saxophone Festival (Palma de Mallorca). With this quartet, he has also participated in the 2017-18 season of the Eutherpe Foundation. As of January 2020 he is the new tenor saxophone of Xenon Saxophone Quartet. He is also active in other ensembles, such as the duo Dois Sons (saxophone and guitar) since 2018.


As an orchestral musician he played with the Junge Deutsche Philarmonie in 2017, and the NRW State Police Orchestra in the 2018-19 season. He is also a reserve saxophonist of the Spanish National Orchestra (ONE).
